Five groups competed in the 1948 Festival adjudicated by Julia Murphy:

Monday, April 5: Ottawa Drama League Workshop with "Man of Destiny" by George Bernard Shaw (see March 24, 1948 for cast and crew details), and the Freiman Players' Club with "Murder at the Embassy" by its director Hugh Parker based on a story by Patricia Pardo de Zela. "The Wandering Scholar" by Hans Sachs was also presented by the ODL Workshop but did not compete (see March 24, 1948 for cast and crew details).

Tuesday, April 6: United Church Young People’s League with "Merry Molly Malone" by Brian McCarthy; Catholic Youth Organization with "Molly and Me" by Margot Belier, and the Recreational Association Players with "Family Album" by Noel Coward.
