CalgirlsOpen audition for Ottawa Little Theatre’s production of Calendar Girls, by Tim Firth will be held Dec. 5 at 2 p.m. at OLT. Please come to the Besserer St. Entrance and ring the backstage doorbell.

This play is based on the movie of the same name, which is based on the true story of eleven WI (Women’s Institute) members who posed nude for a calendar to raise money for the Leukaemia Research Fund. This is not a show about stripping down for a calendar. It’s about loss and friendship, dignity and community, and having each others’ backs.

Saturday December 5, 2 p.m.  – Call back for above and Audition for the rest of the characters (note, some doubling up may occur)

Lawrence – 20’s, earnest and shy – the photographer

Lady Cravenshire 60’s or older – genteel, aristocratic

Elaine – young, pretty, oblivious to her deadly home wrecking talents

Liam – 20’s, self-confident, will one day be directing music videos

Brenda Hulse 50-70s – gives presentations on the “fascinating world of broccoli”…. need we say more?

A Note about nudity: Our Calendar Girls will indeed strip down – discreetly, and under cover of props and other actors.

Nothing will be seen, otherwise we’ve failed. If we do it right, “the choreography will be best described as ‘fabulous concealment’ ” … and we intend to do it right.

While the play takes place in Yorkshire, we will not require Yorkshire accents. Your best mid-Atlantic will do.

Also worthy of note:

No prepared pieces required. Copies of the script can be signed out from the box office in advance.
