A Christmas Story Audition Notice

Children’s parts Audition:
Saturday, Aug. 15
2 pm to 5 pm

Notes:
1. All parents are expected to participate in rehearsals and performances as supervisors for the children. Parents in each cast will be responsible for knowing the play and getting the children to the rehearsal hall or the stage in time for entrances.
2. All children should look 8 or 9 years old except for Randy who looks 6 or 7 years old.
3. The children’s parts will be double cast which means there will be two children’s casts, the Christmas Cast and the Red Ryder Cast, which will alternate rehearsals and performances.

Roles:
Ralphie Parker – Central character, in almost every scene
Randy Parker – largely non-speaking, Ralphie’s little brother.
Flick – Ralphie’s friend.
Schwartz – Ralphie’s friend.
Esther Jane Alberry – Ralphie’s classmate.
Helen Weathers – Ralphie’s classmate.
Scut Farkas – Ralphie’s classmate, also the school bully.

Adult Parts Audition:
Sunday, Aug. 16
2 pm to 4 pm
Ralph – narrator, Ralphie as an adult. On stage at all times and plays a couple of minor roles.
Mother – Ralphie’s mother.
The Old Man- Ralphie’s father, may also play the voice of Santa Claus.
Miss Shields – The teacher in Ralphie’s class.

Rehearsals
All rehearsals are important to prepare for the production. We will begin rehearsing every Thursday from 6:30 to 9:30 pm and every Saturday and Sunday (except Labour Day weekend and Thanksgiving Day weekend) from 2 to 5:30 pm. This schedule will last until after Thanksgiving when we will rehearse Wednesday and Friday evenings from 6:30 to 9:30 pm and every Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 5:30 pm. After Thanksgiving we will be alternating casts so the children will come every other rehearsal. We will not switch casts or rehearsals around to accommodate other schedules.

Performances
There will be 17 performances from December 1 to December 19 including two matinees, one Sunday December 13 and one on Saturday December 19 followed by a cast dinner and then another performance closing night. Each children’s cast will perform one matinee.
